Pittsburgh, PA (SpeculatingStocks) - A trade on volatility has caught the attention of Wall Street due to its sheer size in being the largest trade this year on the CBOE volatility index. The trader initiated the trade back in July and appears the trader is looking for the VIX to start rising in the short-term.

It has seemed like volatility has been at historical lows forever, but it has been downtrodden for over a year. Volatility is due and geopolitical events generally move the VIX with the North Korea situation only seeming to escalate weekly.

The trader could just be hedging other bets, but the argument for volatility makes a lot of sense. The market is at all-time highs and a decent-sized correction would be healthy right now.

The go to trades to play volatility are ProShares Ultra VIX Short-Term Futures (NYSE:UVXY), VelocityShares Daily 2x VIX ST ETN (NASDAQ:TVIX), and iPath S&P 500 VIX ST Futures ETN (NYSE:VXX).
