Pittsburgh, PA (SpeculatingStocks) - An evolution has finally come to phones after years of stagnation through an improved form factor combining a phone and a tablet. Samsung Electronics (OTC:SSNLF) has announced that they will be releasing "The Galaxy Fold." It will launch with 5G on April 26th at a cost of $1,980. This one has all the makings of being a hit for Samsung as well as for Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android Phone and Tablet OS market share that Samsung phones run.

The technology for a foldable phone takes three screens using OLED technology as well as adaptations on the software-side by Google's Android OS team to make switching between phone and tablet mode as seamless as possible. The #1 OLED company known as Universal Display Corporation (NASDAQ:OLED) is already benefiting. The OLED display sector is so hot that OLED has moved from under $80 at the beginning of the year to over $140 now. As you see, there are a confluence of technologies making this happen for Samsung. Apple has to move fast this year to avoid missing out on market share and revenue.

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is usually the company to re-invent technology, even its own technology, but this time it has dropped the ball. Apple is letting Samsung steal its thunder. It's also costing them on the software side against Android OS. Apple surely has already tested all kinds of foldable phone prototypes, but it won't be the first mover. Worse off, Apple could be held up by not having key access to critical flexible OLED technology of which Samsung can stall.

The Samsung Fold has all the makings of being as big of a hit as the Samsung RAZR was during the feature, flip phone era. At a price point just under $2k, Samsung also steals away the high end market from Apple. iPhone users won't like playing second fiddle to other phones, so look for Apple to make a move into the foldable space in rather quick fashion.
